Dead Ant Dead Ant

Two weekends ago, August and I went to the school's annual fundraising Gala where drinks are served in hopes that parents will get sloshed and bid on all kinds of interesting items.

Like. This.

A big ole basket of Pink Panther stuff that my friend Susie's husband donated from his company, MGM Studios. I'm a sucker for pink.
...
So, I placed a bid. The beautiful thing about me and drinks and fundraising events is that the more I drink, the less I remember what I want to win, so USUALLY I will bid on something at the beginning of the evening, then forget to bid on it again and I will not win the bid.
...
Not this time.

But as it turns out, this might be the best thing I ever bid on and won! It was full of Pink Panther movies...including the old school cartoons. Brooke LOVES the life-size Pink Panther and the wee little soft Pink Panther. It's been over a week, and she still carries them around.
...
She is also addicted to the old school cartoons, and this weekend while I was in Texas, she and her daddy had a Pink Panther marathon.
...
She was so inspired, she started drawing... Check out the BOOM! and the POW! These old school cartoons were a little violent, yes? Plus I had to field the "Momma! The Pink Panther is SMOKING!!" comment.
Clearly this basket was a good deal...Brooke is happy and the money went to a good cause.
...
She also drew a lovely picture of Samoa, who really isn't a bobble head in real life.

To be a hero

Brookie drew this recently in her 1st grade class. I found it among a bunch of miscellaneous things in her backpack. I immediately put it in the "save" pile.

Her writing states, "My hero is my mommy."

She got the highest grade, a 4, and a "good work" comment from her teacher.

It is a picture of me "saving" her from Samoa, because when Samoa gets feisty, she is a bit of a moose and she is now bigger than Brooke.

Occasionally, Brooke needs to be rescued from Samoa's love.

It is my honor to be called her hero. Mommies (and daddies, of course) are meant to be the safe haven, and apparently I am doing a fine job.

And that is the most important thing ever.

Halloween fervor

This is Halloween...this is Halloween...
I love the pumpkins that Kennedy created this year. Just thought I'd share them again in case this picture didn't jump out at you from the Shutterfly website. How clever these are! She is giving the spider to her math/science teacher, Mr. Marcus, and the witch to her homeroom/ English/ history teacher, Ms. Eaton {and the witch is NOT a symbol to represent her feelings for her teacher...she likes her teacher very much!}

We had a busy Halloween weekend. We started with a party at the school on Friday night - the Monster Mash. It was quite a success, and many parents worked very hard to make it a night to remember. Some of us were there until almost 11 p.m. cleaning up! Saturday, Brooke had a girl scout event all morning (learning to tie knots, cook on a fire, etc - all the handy things a little girl should know).

Saturday night was another Halloween party for Kennedy at her friend's house! Tina was very brave hosting a house full of 6th graders! Fun was had by all.

Sunday...we made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch, this time with the Zavolta family. Somehow I managed to lose half my pictures from this day.
Shoot.

That evening, we went to a neighborhood party for ANOTHER Halloween event!

Check out my friend, Suzanne's, cinnamon roll Princess Lea buns on the side of her head. Cracked. Me. Up.

Also, and this is big news, August and I went on a date on Saturday night! As in just the two of us for almost four hours! We even ventured "over the hill" to Hollywood. We felt very cutting edge (I mean, old).

What a wonderful weekend...

Yes, maybe now this

Because I love these kids of mine, because I love that husband of mine, because I am thankful and want to share our life with you...

{because I can't seem to pick up a phone}

I think I might start a blog. How strange, you may think. First there's that picture website on Shutterfly {which rocks}, now this?

Yes, maybe now this.
